History
Beginning his professional rodeo career at just 14 years old, Larry Mahan joined the Rodeo Cowboys Association (RCA) in 1963. Through unmatched determination and skill, Mahan achieved six World All-Around Championships—five consecutively from 1966 to 1970, and a sixth in 1973. He also earned two World Bull Riding Championships in 1965 and 1967, cementing his status as an eight-time World Champion.
Mahan’s influence extends far beyond the rodeo arena. He became an icon in Western fashion, a musician, actor, television host, and color commentator. His life story was immortalized in the 1973 documentary The Great American Cowboy, which went on to win the 1974 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
